When should I hire a wealth advisor?
Many individuals benefit from working with a wealth advisor when they experience a major financial event, such as:
Receiving equity compensation
Selling a business
Inheriting wealth
Preparing for retirement
Going through a divorce
Building an estate plan
What Is a Fiduciary Financial Advisor?
A fiduciary financial advisor is legally and ethically obligated to act in their clients' best interests when providing investment advice and financial planning recommendations. This fiduciary standard requires advisors to put clients' interests ahead of their own and disclose potential conflicts of interest.
For many investors, working with a fiduciary advisor can provide greater confidence that recommendations are aligned with their financial goals rather than influenced by commissions or product incentives. However, investors should also evaluate an advisor's experience, credentials, planning process, communication style, and ability to address their specific needs.
Who does Arise Private Wealth typically work with?
We specialize in helping individuals and families navigate complex financial decisions across every stage of life. Our clients often include those nearing or living in retirement, multi-generational families, business owners and executives, high-net-worth women experiencing life transitions such as divorce or widowhood, investors interested in sustainable investing strategies, and technology and aerospace professionals.
What qualifies as a high-net-worth individual?
Generally, a high-net-worth individual (HNWI) has at least $1 million in investable assets, excluding a primary residence. As wealth grows, financial planning often becomes more complex, requiring coordinated investment, tax, estate, and risk-management strategies.
How is wealth management different from investment management?
Investment management focuses on managing a portfolio. Wealth management takes a broader approach that includes investment planning, tax strategies, estate planning coordination, charitable giving, retirement planning, and legacy planning.
How does estate planning fit into financial planning?
Estate planning helps ensure your assets are transferred according to your wishes while potentially reducing taxes, avoiding unnecessary probate costs, and advance planning for beneficiaries.
Do I need a trust?
The answer depends on your goals, family structure, state of residence, and asset level. Trusts can help manage privacy, asset protection, incapacity planning, and wealth transfer strategies.
How often should I update my estate plan?
Most estate plans should be reviewed every three to five years or after major life events such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, relocation, retirement, or the birth of a child.
What financial steps should I take after divorce?
Divorce often creates significant financial changes that require careful planning. Taking proactive steps can help you establish a strong financial foundation for the future.
Some important financial actions to consider after divorce include:
Reviewing your new income, expenses, and cash flow.
Updating your financial plan and long-term goals.
Retitling assets and updating account beneficiaries.
Revising your estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
Evaluating retirement accounts and understanding any division of assets.
Reviewing insurance coverage and updating policies as needed.
Building an emergency fund and reassessing your investment strategy.
Understanding the tax implications of your settlement and future financial decisions.
Because every divorce settlement is unique, it can be beneficial to work with a financial advisor who understands divorce planning and can help coordinate investment, retirement, tax, and estate planning considerations as you move forward.
How should executives manage stock compensation?
Many executives receive RSUs, stock options, or ESPP benefits. A coordinated strategy can help manage concentration risk, tax obligations, diversification, and long-term wealth goals.
